About the Miami Nation of Indiana Honor Fund
Thank you for being here.
Sponsors make monthly, ongoing voluntary tax contributions of any amount, big or small. We also accept one-time contributions. Since we are a 501c3 organization, your contributions are tax deductible!
In addition to sponsorship, if you own land on Miami territory and are curious about land return, we would love to work with you! Please contact us at miamiindians@sbcglobal.net.

Why we created the Honor Fund
In 2024, non-Indigenous friends of the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana created the Honor Fund in partnership with tribal members. We based the fund on models of Indigenous land tax programs across the country, in an effort to repair centuries of harm the Miami people experienced and continue to experience as a result of colonization. The Honor Fund exists to encourage our broader community to support Indigenous land and community preservation. Both financial contributions and land transfers are accepted.
We encourage our sponsors to share widely, inviting their communities and the institutions in their networks to join. If you would like to have members of the Miami Nation present about the Honor Fund to your community, please contact the tribe at miamiindians@sbcglobal.net.
How the funds will support the tribe
The Miami Nation of Indiana aims to reestablish a sustainable way to care for its members, to build a secure future for the tribe, and to ensure future generations can meet their needs.
Your funds help support the Miami in:
Teaching children the Myaamia language
Reuniting the Miami Nation with ancestral lands
Offering more gatherings and expanding gathering spaces for the community to be together
Facilitating stewardship of the land and maintenance of the Tribal Complex, a museum space, a space for language learning, and a space to keep the drums
Providing historical and cultural education to the public, such as drumming, dancing performances, and school lectures
The Impacts of Your Contribution
$100-250 would cover the cost to fund a tribal member in a regalia-making course (i.e. beadwork, ribbonwork, ribbon shirts, shawls)
$500 would cover the costs of an adult language immersion weekend
$800 would cover the cost of a child's participation in a week-long language immersion program
$600-1500 would cover the cost of a new tribal drum for the Twigh Twee Singers
Determining your contribution
Myaamionki, the Miami homelands, encompasses the area from present-day northern Indiana up towards Chicago, down south of what is now Indianapolis, and east into Ohio (for details, see our maps on the bottom of our home page). If you live or work on these lands currently, or have in the past, we invite you to join us.
We recommend you consider the following questions as you determine the amount you plan to contribute to the Miami Nation Honor Fund.
*If you are an individual with wealth, a business, or an institution, please fill out our calculator which will guide you through a series of questions to determine a specific dollar amount.*
In what ways has your ability to rent or own land on Miami land allowed you to accumulate money and/or assets?
In what ways did your ancestors profit off of Miami land loss?
What amount could you contribute monthly that would be feasible and sustainable for you?
What amount could you contribute monthly that would stretch your comfort level slightly, but make you feel proud of your solidarity efforts?
